BARAKA*

Baraka (1992) directed by Ron Fricke

Baraka is an ancient Arabic word, which can be translated as "a blessing, or as the breath, or essence of life from which the evolutionary process unfolds."

The movie was filmed at 152 locations of 24 countries: Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Cambodia, China, Ecuador, Egypt, France, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Kuwait, Nepal, Poland, Saudi Arabia, Tanzania, Thailand, Turkey, and the United States. It contains no dialogue. Instead of a story or plot, the film uses themes to present new perspectives and evoke emotion purely through cinema. The film was the first in over twenty years to be photographed in the 70mm Todd-AO format.

Fricke writes about his work: "I feel that my work has evolved through Koyaanisqatsi, Chronos and Baraka. Both technically and philosophically I am ready to delve even deeper into my favorite theme: humanity's relationship to the eternal"

HOME*

In 200,000 years on Earth, humanity has upset the balance of the planet, established by nearly four billion years of evolution. The price to pay is high, but it's too late to be a pessimist: humanity has barely ten years to reverse the trend, become aware of the full extent of its spoliation of the Earth's riches and change its patterns of consumption.

More than a movie; HOME!!

SEQUENCES FRACTALS 1

I want to introduce an interesting video, it was recomended by Francisco Miguel Yañez Pichardo:

Haven´t you ask yourselves how would be life if we´d disappear suddenly? Well, this video would answer this possible cuestion. It is a very interesting documentary about how it would be life after us. What would happen to our buildings, houses and all that we have now. You migth find it interesting, you migth not. Give it a try and leave a comment if you want. Greetings.

Soneto XVII by Pablo Neruda.

The next poem is from the book "Cien sonetos de amor" written by Pablo Neruda. I´m going to put it in spanish in order that not to lose the sense of this great sonet. Enjoy, friends.

An Overview of Communication 2

Implications of Effective Communication Behavior

Why is it important that we acquire better skills in communication? Lets consider three reasons.

Personal Growth:
One reason why it´s important to learn comunicate more effectively is that through communication I become whoever I am and you become whoever you are. We are more than our physical bodies-more than skin and bones. The mental and the emotional along with the physical make "me" and make "you". Through communication you and I discover the names for things about us and, more importantly, the meanings of things about us. Through communication you and I develop language so that we can identify and describe the things about us,even identify and describe ourselves. Through communication our personalities develop. But our mental and emotional development doesn´t stop at age five, or age thirteen, or upon graduation from high school-it continues. For each of us, the quality of our communication affects the quality of our living. The link between communication and mental health is clear. Can I think and express my thoughts clearly? Have I learned to be open and trust? Can I let myself be known by others? Or am I afraid and fearful? Am I withdrawn from others and from my world? These are matters directly related to one´s communication development. For these reasons, personal growth is one of the major objectives of the study of communication.

AN OVERVIEW OF COMMUNICATION

INTRODUCTION
Communication is a survival mechanism. We develop as unique persons; we rate to others; and we cooperate with others through communication.
Communication is a process that is dynamic, systemic, transactional, adaptive, and continuos, and we engage in it at numerous levels, including the intrapersonal, and public communication levels.
Human beings are communicators. Our quality of life depends upon communication.Pimitive peoples´attempts to make recognizable sounds were undoubtedly motivated by the need to meet threats to survival.
They learned to make sounds that were warnongs of impending danger, threatening sounds to frighten away intruders, and pleasant sounds to establish friendship and rapport.
Such communication, observable also in animal behavior, is called presymbolic communication.

The presymbolic communication of animals is amazingly efficeient: The signals animals send through sounds, positions, and movements- can express such definite things as " Get out of my territory", "Help", etc. Crickets and grasshopers have an atonishing variety of songs, with accompanying moods that vary from courtship to combat-to-the-deaht. Some species of butterfly change their color in a fraction of a second and give off an odor as a mating signal.

In human communication, as in animal communication, the purpose is to enable organisms to adjust to their environments.

Language and Identity

Language and identity are two expressions that need to be explained. English is the official language in several countries, Chinese is the language spoken by Chinese people and Danish is how Danes speak. But languages could also be described as different ways of talking due to social background, education, profession, age and sex. A person´s language is connected to his social situation. Eliza, the cockney flower girl from the gutter does not speak the same language as professor HiIggins, even if English is their common mother tongue. They speak differently because they belong to different social worlds. Identity can signify the very special characters of a person, something that makes him differ from others.

There is a link between language and identity. But language studies that are concertrated on pure linguistic training of grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation bring only about external progresses. If they are completed with literature they are likely to attain a higher level. Language skills are important, but they are nothing but tools. To be used in a fertile way that produces interior changes of character and personality, they need to be completed with a knowledge of literature.

Emily Dickinson

This Time I want to introduce an excellent poetry:
"Emily Dickinson"; I wonder when I read for first time her best Known poem, " Just lost when I was Saved".

Emily Elizabeth Dickinson (December 10 1830-May 15 1886)
She was an American POet, born in Armherts, Massachusetts, to a succesful familiy with strong community ties, she lived a mostly introverted and reclusive life.
Although Dickinson was a prolific private poet, fewer than a dozen of her nearly eighteen poems were publisehd during her lifetime, the work that was during her life time was usualy altered significantly by the publishers to fit the conventional poetic rules of the time.

Dickinson´s poems are the unique for the era in wich she wrote; they contain short lines, typicaly lack titles, and oftne used slant rhyme as well as unconventional capitalization and punctuation. Many of her poems deals with themes of deaht and immortality, two recurring topics in letters to her frinds.

Although most of her acquaintances were probably aware of Dickinson´s writing it was not until after her death in 1886, when Lavinia, emily´s younger sister, discovered her cache of poems.
Her first collection of poetry was published in 1890 by personal acquaintances.
Despite unfavorable reviews and skepticims of her literary prowess during the late 19th and early 20th century, critics now consider Dickinson to be a major American poet.

"HOPE" is the thing with feathers by Emily Dickinson

"Hope" is the thing with feathers-

That perchers in the soul-

And sings the tune without the words

And never stops-at all-

And sweetest- in the Gale- is heard-

And sore must be the storm-

That could abash the little Bird-

That kept so many warm-

I´ve heard in the chillest land-

And on the strangest Sea-

Yet, never, in Extremity

It asked a crumb -of Me.

Music Recomendation

Hello, today I´m going to recomend you a very unknown e.p from one of the most popular bands in rock and roll. I´m talking about The Cure. In the early 90´s they were recording "Wish" one of the most successful albums of this band. Well, during this period of time they record a few instrumental songs that were not released in the album. This was because of their record label didnt want those songs. So, Robert Smith and company released these songs in a little cassette named "Lost Wishes". Is one of the best E.p´s of this ancient band. You must download it ´cause is hard to find in record stores. I hope you can listen to it. When I know how to up load videos, I will do it. Thanks for reading.

JUST LOST, WHEN I WAS SAVED! by Emily Dickinson

JUST LOST, WHEN I WAS SAVED!

Just lost, when I was saved!

Just felt the world go by!

Just girt me for the onset with Eternity,

When breath blew back,

An on the other side

I heard recede the disapointed tide!

Therefore, as One returned, I feel

Odd secrets of the line to tell!

Some sailor, skirting foreing shores-

Some pale Reporter, from the awful doors

Before the Seal!

Next time, to stay!

Next time the things to see

By Ear unheard,

Unscrutinized by Eye-

Next time, to tarry,

While the Ages steal-

Slow tramp the Centuries,

And the Cycles wheel!

Emily Dickinson (1830-1886)
